Brits Critics Choice Award winner, Sam Fender has announced that he will be hitting the road, later this year, as well as unveiling his latest track, ‘Play God’. Tyneside-born, Fender announced a string of new UK dates, which will see him hitting the road, in May 2019, in Manchester.
The news comes after the latest offering from the Brits Critics Choice Award winner sees him re-releasing his breakthrough single, ‘Play God’, which he originally debuted, in 2017. The track tackles the state of the world, while providing it with a dystopian twist. It’s a re-release for Fender, after ‘Play God’ was initially the singer’s debut single in 2017.
Speaking about the track, Fender said: “‘Play God’ is set in an alternate dystopian reality that shares similarities with our own world. I wrote it a couple of years ago where there were a lot of big changes happening in both the UK and the States, I had just entered my twenties, I was anxious about the future of the world and its leaders, and it didn’t help that I’d just read George Orwell’s 1984 at the time. As you can imagine I was pretty paranoid.”
As well as the new single, Fender has also confirmed that he will be heading back out on he road, in May 2019. The 22-year-old will kick off the string of UK dates, in Manchester, on the 02nd of May 2019. The singer will also visit Glasgow, London, Birmingham, and Exeter, before concluding the six-date tour in, Bristol, on the 13th of May 2019. In addition to his six-date tour, in May, Fender will also be playing two sold out headline shows, in Manchester and London, this February. Tickets for his May tour go on sale on the 18th of February 2019, at 9am, and can be purchased here.
In addition to his six-date tour and sold out February shows, Fender is also confirmed to play at Neighbourhood Weekender on May 25-26, which is headlined by Richard Ashcroft and George Ezra. The tour comes after Fender was announced as the winner of the Brits Critics Choice Award in December 2018, following the likes of Sam Smith, Florence & The Machine and Adele.
Speaking about winning The Brits Critics’ Choice Award, Fender said: “I am truly humbled to win The BRITs Critics’ Choice Award.” He continued, “Being nominated was crazy enough, never mind winning it. I’m so grateful to everyone back home for believing, and to my band and team for all their hard work. We’ve played literally hundreds of shows this year, and we’re going to go even harder in 2019.”
