English rockers Royal Blood are celebrating their third number one album. The group’s new album, ‘Typhoons’, released 30th April 2021, has reached number one within the UK Album Charts.
The duo took to their Instagram to express their gratitude to fans for their support whilst displaying their number
one award.
Speaking with Officalcharts.com, Royal Blood, gave their official acceptance speech and thanked for their fans and those who bought the album.
“This is getting ridiculous now. I don’t think we thought we’d make more than one album, so to get to here and be on our third and it be Number 1 is a joke, to be honest with you. We’d just like to say thank you to everyone that went out and bought it. Thank you very much, it means a lot to us. Having a Number 1 record in 2021 is like… having a Number 1 record in 2021! A great feeling. Thank you so much, we’ll see you on tour.”
The duo’s number one album has already supplied many accolades for the band, the album achieved over 32,000 chart sales with 24,000 sales on physical formats along with achieving the most digital downloads for the whole week. The release also outsold the rest of the other top five artists combined, beating out Birdy’s album, ‘Young Heart’, landing at number four and last week’s number one album, ‘Surrounded By Time‘ by Sir Tom Jones. The album also outsold The Coral’s new release, ‘Coral Island’ which placed at number two in the charts this week. Alongside the album’s rocketing sales, the band has also clinched another top spot, the duo landed the biggest opening week for a British act this year.
The Brighton rock outfit consisting of Mike Kerr, vocals and bass and Ben Hatcher on drums, was formed in 2011 and since their 2014 self-titled debut album, ‘Royal Blood’, they have been an unstoppable force within the charts. All three of their studio albums have reached number one, with their debut album even verified by the Official Charts as the fasted selling British rock debut album in three years within the UK. The debut album was also nominated for the 2014 Mercury Prize for the best album award.
‘Typhoons’ was only released last week but has already provided the duo with even more commercial success. The album has so far sired three singles, the album’s lead single ‘Trouble’s Coming’ saw the band inject a dance influence into their trademark heavy sound. The album’s title single, ‘Typhoons’, released 21st January 2021, carried the dance influence and was accompanied by a music video by celebrated French director, Quentin Deronzier. The last single, ‘Limbo’, released 25th March 2021, was performed live virtually on 27th March 2021 on Roblox, an online gaming platform, ‘Limbo’ also features the dance elements seen in the album’s first two singles. The duo’s new album sees the pair develop an exciting new sound which sees their signature rock sprinkled with other genres. The album not only takes inspiration from dance, but also perfectly blends together elements of glam and disco with their famed heavy rock style.
