Royal Blood have just teased a potential new single and music video coming out next Thursday, 24 September. The Brighton rock duo shared an ambiguous picture of a vintage Ford Cortina GXL with registration “ROYAL” and nothing more than the date as title. Fans were left guessing if this is going to be a fresh track or simply the cover of their third studio album.
If this is indeed new material, next week will mark the first official release since their last album How Did We Get So Dark? came in June 2017 via Warner Bros Records, followed by the exclusive digital 2-track single Spotify Sessions from a month later. Earlier in March this year, Royal Blood were supposedly in studio recording their upcoming third record, which was delayed due to the global pandemic and no information has come out since.
In the peak of the summer festival season in July 2019, Royal Blood played two new tracks in Wiesbaden, Germany – ‘Boilermaker’ and ‘King’. The band performed the tracks on numerous live occasions since that, including Reading and Leeds Festival 2019 but are yet to release an official studio version of either track, with fans now speculating whether one of them could be coming out next week.
On the 25 August this year, Royal Blood joined Tim Burgess’ Twitter Listening Party to celebrate the sixth anniversary from the release of their self-titled debut. Mike Kerr (vocals, bass) and Ben Thatcher (drums) jumped in their official Twitter account to comment on each track from the chart topping album. While acknowledging the whole recording process as a valuable lesson and the beginning of their sucessful career, the guys highlighted the explosive debut single ‘Out Of The Black‘ as the actual moment that “tore a hole through spacetime” and subsequently took the UK rock scene by storm.
OutOfTheBlack: Ben played me that opening beat. I picked two notes and mirrored everything he was doing. That moment felt like we tore a hole through spacetime. It was big, dumb and beautiful. I realised alone we are nothing, but together, unstoppable. #timstwitterlisteningparty — Royal Blood (@royalblooduk) August 25, 2020
