British rock duo Royal Blood have caused a flurry of excitement on the UK music scene since the release of their eponymous debut album in 2014 having since notched up a BRIT award, two NME awards and various other accolades, as well as breaking the UK record for fastest selling British debut rock album in three years – and even gaining notoriety overseas with a slot at the world famous Coachella Festival last year.
Now, after heading straight back to the studio after a lengthy tour, the band have premiered their first new material since 2014 in the form of a stomping new track entitled Where Are You Now?. Listen below:
Where Are You Now? was written for HBO show Vinyl, penned by an impressive list of names: Mick Jagger, Martin Scorsese, Rich Cohen and Terence Winter. Vinyl stars Bobby Cannavale as 1970s record executive Richie Finestra – and also features Mick Jagger’s son fronting a punk band.
Royal Blood have joined the growing list of musicians to have recorded tracks for the show, including Iggy Pop. Mike Kerr, who co-wrote the song exclusively for the show, told VICE’s music news site Noisey:
Hearing Richie Finestra talk about the first time you heard a song that made your hairs on the back of your neck stand up or made you wanna dance or kick someone’s arse – I just wanted to write a song that gave me that sort of buzz.
