After a year of non-stop touring for their astronomically successful 2014 self titled debut, Royal Blood have confirmed they have set aside the rest of the year to work on album number two.
Speaking to Gigwise at The Q Awards last night, where Royal Blood claimed ‘Best Live Act’, frontman Mike Kerr declared “We did a lot of touring [this year] and now we’re done”. On how far a long the record was Kerr stated “The writing process really has just begun,” and that ideas for the album are “all in my brain.”
Talking about writing on the road Kerr said that “I think that sound-checking in those echo-ey rooms can be a part of the creative process, but to be honest with you, I find writing on the road a little stale. It’s not a very inspiring place really to write, we’re there to tour, to gig and to focus on the show. Already having been back home, I think it’s proof that we much prefer doing it that way.”
The band have, however, some fruits from their labours on the road, premiering a new song ‘Hook Line and Sinker’ at Reading Festival this August. On the new song Kerr said “I think that song came about a few months before Reading. We were so desperate to play it, so we did. […] Maybe that’s like, the weirdest song on the record, I don’t know yet – it’s hard to say.”
