Following a surprising teaser from last week, Royal Blood shared their brand new track ‘Typhoons‘ yesterday with exclusive premiere on Annie Mac’s Hottest Record of the Week on BBC Radio 1. The release came alongside the exciting announcement of the rock duo’s third studio record with the same name, expected on 30 April via Warner Music UK. The album is already available to pre-order here on all standard formats and limited edition bundles.
Speaking of the fresh single, Royal Blood said: “Typhoons is what it sounds like to be truly lost in your own thoughts to a hellish extent but also about how dark spells, much like storms are not permanent. This song was one those special moments where the process didn’t resemble writing whatsoever. More like being tethered to the earth, receiving holy lightning.”
So far ‘Trouble’s Coming‘ and ‘Typhoons‘ are the only two singles with official, with the long anticipated and only previously performed live ‘Boilermaker‘ featuring on the yet tracklist. Stay tuned for further updates, potential promotional single releases and all other Royal Blood news prior to the 30 April. Pre-ordering the album now also gives exclusive access to tickets pre-sale for upcoming tour dates.
Typhoons‘ tracklist confirms 11 songs in total. Mainly produced by Kerr and Thatcher, so far it is rumoured that Queens Of The Stone Age’s very own Josh Homme and renowned producer Paul Epworth (also creditted on ‘Trouble’s Coming‘) are involved with few of the tracks.
The new single ‘Typhoons‘ shares the upcoming record’s title and artwork. A modern alt rock composition with all the markings of a future arena anthem and regular radio feature, it also carries the slightly different approach shown by Royal Blood in ‘Trouble’s Coming‘. Groovy, riffy and upbeat, the track reminds once again why Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher have cemented themselves at the forefront of the contemporary UK rock scene ever since their seminal debut.
The hugely anticipated album comes out at the end of April across all digital platforms, standard CD, LP and casette, as well as a picture disc and coloured vinyl. For a short time there are also 8000 copies of a deluxe bundle with “translucent pink/opaque black split colour 12” vinyl album, housed in a metallic foil gatefold outer sleeve, plus an exclusive 7” single containing unreleased track “Space” not available anywhere else, with an etched b-side, […] a large format booklet containing lyrics, credits and imagery and an individually numbered 12” art print“.
The next few months will likely see Royal Blood at the front pages of all webzines and printed magazines, as well as appearing at regular interviews and stories across major stations. Previously, the Brighton duo has released two critically acclaimed chart-topping studio albums, with their self-titled debut (2014) certified double platinum and its follow-up How Did We Get So Dark? (2017) gold in the UK.
