Capital Breakfast’s Roman Kemp is beloved by many British citizens so when the 27-year-old announced the death of his beloved friend and Capital’s producer Joe Lyons this morning (10.08), naturally the nation felt sorry for the guy. Joe passed away on Tuesday (August 4), Kemp got informed on Wednesday and therefore took the rest of the week off to mourn the loss of his great friend in private. However, as the new week began, he was back today, paying tribute to Joe on both, the show and his Instagram account.
Together with his co-hosts Sian Welby and Sonny Jay, Kemp went back on air and opened up about the loss: “I never thought I’d have to do this ever. Last Tuesday, very suddenly, we lost one of our best friends. Our producer Joe, he was a member of the Capital Breakfast family. He was not just part of the Capital Breakfast family but a loved member of the whole team.”
He recalled how Joe was the first person he ever met at the station, saying that “he was with me right from my very first show, he taught me everything.” Kemp also shared that Joe was the one greeting all the celebrities coming on the show and that “every A-Lister that you ever hear on this show, they know who he is, everyone. He’s the person they spoke with first, and if you’ve ever called into this show, he was the person who picked up the phone. He really couldn’t do enough for people. He was the nicest guy that I know, hands down.”
It’s not only the famous visitors that Joe liked, as Roman revealed: “The thing that he loved most of all was doing this show. He was like a genius coming up with these ideas. He was driven by the reaction from you every day.”
Later on, Kemp posted one last picture with his friend and co-worker on Instagram in which he described Joe as “my brother, my best mate and my partner” and confessed that he still sends text to his late friend, as he’s “sorry I haven’t stopped texting you and sending you memes.” He ended the post with one last loving expression towards his best friend: “I love you more than I can ever explain. See you soon mate @producerjoe.”
