Krauss and Plant have been named by USA Today as “one of the most critically adored odd couples of music”. NPR Music added: “This feels like a warm welcome back from two old friends you haven’t seen in a long time,” and their voices “still fit together like a pair of dusty boots nestled atop a welcome mat“.
The forthcoming album has been recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium Studios at the end of 2019. Kraus commented on the collaboration: “When we started, Robert had said that if it didn’t work, we’ll try it for three days and say goodbye”. “Robert’s singing is the epitome of freedom and spontaneity,” she added. “And I’m pretty regimented, but there’s a romance in contrast”.
“One of my favourite parts of this is the songs and songwriters that I had never heard of. Working with Robert, and with T Bone, is always a great education in musical history” she continues. Plant’s rock background and Krauss’ country background works magic and is definitely an advantage. Both musicians took their collaboration to a new level and finish working on the album just a few weeks before lockdown.
“I thought I’d got America down, but here was this whole world of country music I’d not encountered,” he said. “That’s the great thing about me and Alison – we’re ably supported by a world of beautiful music that one of other of us doesn’t know too much about”.
“For the two of us, nothing was written in blood. We were ready to do something new and previously knew how good it was, so join us again. You can see where you are going. You have nothing to lose” – added Plant.
The new release is out on 19th November and can be pre-ordered here.
Robert Plant said about the album: “It’s such a far cry from everything I’ve done before“. “I love the whole kaleidoscope of music that I’ve explored, but this is a place where you can think within the song, you can decide how to bring home an emotion. It’s another blend that we’ve got, and long may we have more of them“.
