Alice Kiernan, the up-and-coming, Irish musician, has today, Friday the 12th of October, released her catchy debut single, ‘Running Now’. When it comes to being a rising performer it has never been easier to get your name out there and be noticed, but in a world of YouTube, it has never been more competitive to catch the attention. Kiernan is a, 22-year-old singer/song-writer from County Meath, Ireland, with one dream – to make it big in the music world. Kiernan has used YouTube as a platform to get her name out there and noticed.
Speaking to Hot Press, Kiernan, said: “The song takes inspiration from various female artists such as Lorde, Florence and The Machine, and Ellie Goulding.” She continues: “The song focuses on the moment we are faced with the situation that scares us most. We fight or we flight. We stay or we run”
The debut single, ‘Running Now’ sees Kiernan take a step back from her acoustic guitar and was co-produced my Martin Quinn, who has also produced music for, another rising Irish star, Aine Cahill, in JAM Studios.
On her Facebook page, Kiernan, said: “I am proud of this song for many reasons but mainly because I did it all myself. The song writing, organising studio time, organising photography and graphics, press release and contacting, branding, marketing, social media, getting it onto the music platforms and so much more.”
At the age of 16, Kiernan began her music career by gigging and performing in venues around Ireland, which saw her supporting incredibly talented and prominent artists such as Matt Cardle. As well as some of Ireland’ s biggest acts including Ham SandwicH and Paddy Casey, in venues such as Whelans, The Academy, and Cyprus Avenue. The rising star soon gained a small following, through gigging and posting covers, as well a debuting some of her own original material online.
“I never really look for views, but it would be good if I had more views on the videos. It’s so competitive; everybody’s trying to do it. When you put up a cover there’s already 50,000 others of that cover anyway so it’s just about trying to find something different really. I’m an acoustic artist so I’ll find a really upbeat song, or maybe even something with dubstep, and try to break it down. Or, maybe I’ll take a slow song and try to make it faster. That’s what people look for – a cover that’s made the song different,” Kiernan says, speaking about the struggle of being a rising musician, using YouTube as their platform.
