One of Britain’s most loved drummers has let it slip which The Beatles song is his favourite, the former Beatle announced the track during his interview on ‘The Late Show’.
The show’s host, Stephen Colbert asked Starr to confirm which track was his favourite, presenting the question as, “You get one song to listen to for the rest of your life. What is it?“, which was asked during the show’s segment called ‘The Colbert Questionert’. The musician responded that the 1969 hit, ‘Come Together’ was his choice and his preferred song from his former band’s repertory.
Starr gave the below statement as his answer during the segment, which was originally recorded during an appearance initially made in March.
“There’s lots of other favourites, but if you want one, ‘Come Together’ can’t be bad”, during the interview he also added that the song was his favourite Beatles track. “I just think it worked perfectly with the band and the song and John being John. I loved that moment.”
Starr’s pick, ‘Come Together‘ was released on 6th October 1969 and was the opening track on their highly influential 1969 album, ‘Abbey Road‘. The track was released as a single with ‘Something‘ as a dual single release, the release charted at number four in the UK charts. The track was written by legendary songwriting duo, Lennon and McCartney, and took its inspiration from a request made to write a campaign song against Ronald Reagan. The request was made by Timothy Leary, an American psychologist and strong advocate of LSD in psychiatry who would later be arrested for various drug related offences.
The fifteen-question section of the show also revealed some other interesting facts about the famous Liverpudlian. Starr stated that his favourite sandwich was cheese and that he sees Lions as the scariest animal. The musician also gave Twitter as his answer when asked what his most used app on this phone was. But Starr also revealed his disgust with Bodily functions, the drummer named them as his least favourite smell. A fact which he has also stated within Dave Grohl’s documentary, ‘What Drives Us’. Within the documentary, Starr discusses the perils of living life on the road and talks about the rules of human flatulence when on a tour bus.
