‘Noble England’, a song recorded by the late Rik Mayall ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, has had a huge resurgence this week and has entered the top 10 in the UK singles chart.
Following the comedian’s passing on Monday due to what is now believed to have been an “acute cardiac event“, the song that he recorded ahead of the previous World Cup has rocketed up the charts thanks to a number of social media campaigns. Jon Morter, the man behind the campaign to get Rage Against The Machine to the Christmas number one spot in 2009, is one of the key figures behind an effort aimed at launching Mayall’s track back up the charts.
The former Young Ones and Bottom star recorded this track which features Mayall delivering lines from Shakespeare’s Henry V. More information about the campaign, including places to download the track from, can be found here.
