Portland stoner rock stalwarts Red Fang have announced a UK and European summer tour. This will be an eighteen-date run, and will see the band making numerous festival appearances along the way, including Copenhell, Graspop, Hellfest, and an appearance at Download Festival on June 10th. More information regarding tickets and a touring schedule can be viewed here.
Red Fang are touring in support of their 2021 full-length Arrows, “a satisfying piece of scuzzed-out riffage” according to Stereogum and “another heaping pile of fuzzy stoner rock from one of the most reliable institutions in their genre” from Revolver. Produced by longtime collaborator Chris Funk (Murder The Mountains, Whales and Leeches). You can listen to the album on all streaming services, and you can order physical copies here.
Red Fang formed in 2005, and is currently comprised of Aaron Beam on bass and vocals, Bryan Giles on guitar and vocals, David Sullivan on guitars and John Sherman on drums. The quartet is often described as “stoner rock”, and for anyone delving into their discography, their mammoth sound and sizzling, fuzzy guitar tones make it plain to see why. The band released their self-titled debut album in 2009 via Wantage USA Records/Sargent House, combining two limited-release E.Ps to make their first album. Their sophomore effort Murder The Mountains was released via Relapse Records in 2011, a year which saw the group appearing on tours alongside the likes of sludge metal legends Crowbar, and alt-metal outfit Helmet.
The band has not slowed down since then, having released three full-length albums since Murder the Mountains; 2013’s Whales and Leeches, 2016’s Only Ghosts and 2021’s Arrows.
Arrows received generally favourable reviews across the board, with several reviewers even calling the album Red Fang’s best since their debut, and Consequence of Sound saying that it was their best since their sophomore effort Murder the Mountains. The publication said: “Red Fang were right to compare Arrows to the acclaimed Murder the Mountains. It’s their best album since their debut, capturing an energy that was lacking on previous efforts. The songs here are simply more memorable and diverse, brimming with riffs and adventurous vocals. It’s safe to assume the band accumulated plenty of ideas in the years between records, and it sounds like they sifted the strongest material into Arrows, an excellent return that’s been worth the wait.”
