Radiohead have filed a new company called Dawn Chorus LLP sparking speculation over the possibility of an imminent release of their ninth studio album.
Radiohead fans over at Radiohead forum At Ease spotted the filings for Dawn Chorus LLP, founded back in October 2015, on the Companies House website. Each of the five company officers were the members of the band, confirming the fact that it was in fact Radioheads own company. The registered address is a central London postbox for companies, many of them being music affiliated.
The real reason for rampant speculation concerning the new albums release is the fact that this isn’t the first time the band has set up a company ahead of an album’s release. Radiohead created companies shortly preceding their last two albums. In July 2007 the band set up Xurbia Xendless Ltd. before the October release of In Rainbows, and then in December 2010 the band set up Ticker Tape Ltd as a precursor to their King of Limbs, which released in February 2011. With their being a 3-4 month gap between filing the companies and releasing the albums the last two times they’ve done it, the assumption is that an album is due very soon, with Dawn Chorus LLP being filed in October. However, considering that the band are the de facto masters of release date misdirection, it might be best to err on the side of caution and not hold your breath just yet.
No official statement has been made by the band regarding the company filings as of yet. We do know, however that there is an album coming out at some point in the near future, and that the band have lots of recorded music for it – as of October.
Since October though we haven’t heard much else in the way of new Radiohead music, other than the surprise Christmas day present in the form of their rejected Spectre theme song. Whether the song is a part of the new album or not is unknown, although it seems likely; but until we hear anything more from their new album, you can have a listen to Spectre below:
