Dance-hall legend Popcaan released his project ‘Fixtape‘, on the 8th of August. It is 19 tracks long and is available to stream on all platforms.
Popcaan’s global influence interlaces throughout the album. As a result, the artist calls upon high-profile musicians to feature in ‘Fixtape‘. Drake appears on ‘ALL I NEED‘ and ‘TWIST & TURN‘, with PartyNextDoor. French Montana and Stylo G also contribute, the former on ‘MURDA‘ and the latter on ‘FRESH POLO‘.
The dance-hall influences provide the skeleton for the project. However, the tone ranges. The albums opening track, ‘CHILL‘ radiates a sunny musical disposition. On the other hand ‘MURDA‘ showcases the artist’s aggressive edge, whilst ‘GOODAZ GAL‘ swaggers as a vintage dance-hall track.
Popcaan took to Instagram to promote the release. He uploaded a, behind the scenes, homevideo which documents his creative process. He captioned the post: ‘we did put in a lot of work on this tape… I hope you will enjoy it as much how we enjoy making it for you‘. The clip shows the artist in the studio, relaxing with friends and cooking up some impressive BBQ.
‘Fixtape‘ cements Popcaan’s position as a dance-hall icon. The project demonstrates Popcaan’s international pull as an artist, due to the superstars that contribute, as well as his diverse range of sound. ‘Fixtape‘ is a triumphant accompaniment to the U.K’s impending heatwave.
