The legendary Phil Collins crept out of his retirement last week to perform at son’s ‘Country Day School’ in Florida.
The 63 year old Genesis frontman hinted at his retirement in 2011 but has since mentioned that he may go back on his word and continue with his talents, with talks of a Genesis reunion and tour “Everything is possible, we could tour in Australia and South America. We haven’t been there yet”, he told a German Magazine last year whilst promoting the Tarzan musical .
Collins is said to have anticipated retirement due to his health and wishing to spend more time with his family after a long and celebrated music career. This new video footage shows Collins introduced on stage by a rather nervous looking young chap ‘Mr Winters’, probably a little star struck by the singers presence.
The brave band kicks off with a very professional rendition of ‘In the Air Tonight’ after a couple of minute’s intro from the man himself. He appears extremely humbled to be there and admits that he was nervous as this was his first performance since 2011.
The crowd and Collins himself take their hats off to the young band who do a fantastic job of covering his music, which must be especially nerve-racking having the writer standing a few meters away. It is events like this which certainly bring music back to its roots, with a community spirit and displaying a distance between the glitz and glamour of the rock and roll life, bringing it home to a small school in support and celebration of young talent.
Collins also expressed earlier in January this year that he was collaborating with Adele which many have claimed to be a perfect way for Collins to return to the public spotlight.
