The album is part of a new project for the former Libertines and Babyshambles front man who was responsible for some of the most iconic songs of the 2000s, and in ‘Up The Bracket’ (2002) one of the best British indie albums of modern times. He has since been in and out of rehab for drug addiction but now appears ready to shake the British music scence again.
Last week Pete Doherty also revealed he thinks Brexit will inspire a new wave a musicians and be “the best thing to happen” to the British music industry. In the interview he said “I can feel like in Watership Down when the fields start to turn black, because of all the propaganda that we’re getting fed about Brexit. I don’t believe that this great British nation is capable of doing that to itself. And destroying my band in the process, because I’m the only British passport holder in the band. You’ll see, you’ll get the most insane new wave of the most incredible [bands]. You see the difference between writing a poem in prison and writing a poem in a cottage by a lake, you know. There will be an incredible backlash.”

Doherty has since been criticised on twitter for his comments, by people accusing him of supporting Brexit. It’s important to note however that at no point did Doherty say he was in support of Brexit, or anti-Brexit, he simply said that it could inspire generations of musicians as paradigm shifts has previously done. Doherty reiterated this when retweeting a post last later on in the week.
The idea “music journalists” don’t understand the link between upheaval and recession and paradigm shifts in music makes you wonder if they’ve ever listened to music at all. What he said was
