The Libertines singer Pete Doherty just released his brand new single ‘Calvados’, a track from his upcoming album whilst announcing a series of intimate in-store gigs. Tickets are now available via Ticketek. Pete has now shared two singles from his upcoming album ‘Felt Better Alive’ which is set to be released May 16.
The single, named after the Normandy native alcohol where the rock star lives with his wife and daughter, pays tribute to a local seller set near him. The frontman is also set to teach at the university of Normandy this year. Speaking to NME about his inspiration for the song, he said: “Where I live there’s a fellow in town, he’s got a shop that specialises in Calvados and ciders; the apple juice becomes cider becomes Calvados. He took me on a tour of all the old Calvados makers, in his van, place to place, staying with them. It’s that story. The line ‘Slow and steady is the way!/The way it was, the way it is…’, that’s how it is. These farms have been there for generations. You can’t hurry it, you wait for the apples to grow, you wait for the seasons to change, it’s not a laboratory. And at the end you get this incredible elixir. Fire water!”
Along with the song, Doherty invited his fans to get competitive and submit entries to create the music video for the track with winner Natalie Sidorenko/Sad Lip Studio animation being chosen. “I immediately pictured how the loving relationship between the farmer and his wife should be unified with their shared craft: the making of the ‘Calvados’,” Sidorenko said of the final design.
The ‘What A Waster’ singer will be celebrating the release of his album with in- store performances and signings at five locations across the UK between May 16, the release day for the album to May 21, in Leeds, Liverpool, Nantwich, Kingston and London.
As well as his current tour with band The Libertines, Pete will hit the road with his own UK and Europe Tour this March, April and May. Tickets for both are now available via Ticketmaster.
