Pearl Jam have released a new track, ‘Mind Your Manners’, the first single from their upcoming tenth studio album, ‘Lightning Bolt’, set for release on October 14th.
‘Lightning Bolt’ is the first album of new material since the critical success of ‘Backspacer’ in 2009, and will be celebrated with a 24 date North American tour, culminating in their home city of Seattle, Washington. No European dates have been announced as of yet.
The band rose to fame in the early 1990’s as part of the ‘Big Four’ of grunge music – along with Seattle contemporaries Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden, their 1991 debut album, ‘Ten’ quickly becoming one of the highest selling alt-rock releases of all time. By the late 90’s, due to band member deaths, substance abuses and internal disagreements, Pearl Jam found themselves the only members of the Big Four still standing. While struggling against the ‘death’ of grunge, and a well-publicised feud with Ticketmaster, they have continued to prosper, experimenting with folk-, art- and psychedelic rock.
Guitarist Mike McReady has indicated that the album would continue with the upbeat, slightly poppy sound of ‘Backspacer’, but that there would be a harder, more experimental edge.
