Paramore took to Instagram today to post lengthily, updating their fans on the progress of their upcoming fifth album. The band’s last release was their self-titled LP from 2013. In December 2015, long-time bassist Jeremy Davis departed the band, having been a part of all four prior Paramore albums, and was a member since 2005. Paramore confirmed the news through a Facebook post at the time, declaring that singer Hayley Williams and guitarist Taylor York would be continuing the band’s work as a two-piece.
In today’s Instagram post, just under a year since the band confirmed that they were writing new music, they confirmed that they had been demoing and recording songs for the untitled album, simply called “#5″ in the post.
Frontwoman Hayley was the author of the post, and spoke of the band’s thought process, to create a successor to their very successful eponymous LP, writing “following up our self-titled album didn’t seem like it was going to be an easy task and, unsurprisingly, it was not. the problem about comparing yourself to… yourself… is that even though it’s better than looking elsewhere, you’re still looking in the wrong direction.” The post continued “for me, it wasn’t until i trusted that the past is finished with me that i could go looking for what’s next. our pasts can be a great comforter, or a horror movie; a noose, or a shield… but it is “past” for a reason.” The full post can be seen here
Long-term fans of the band were excited by rumours in June 2016, when word began to surface that the two members of Paramore may have been reuniting with former drummer Zac Farro. The rumours were supported by cryptic tweets that seemed to drop hints about Farro’s involvement, which would’ve been his first since departing the band in 2010. One particular tweet seemed to confirmed this, posted with the words “Lunch is over//Making an album.” Eagle-eyed fans spotted Farro in the accompanying shot behind the drum kit in the band’s studio.
