The London-based rapper, Octavian has unveiled the video for his latest track, ‘Move Faster’. The French-British rapper has experienced his breakthrough this year and in true style he has revisited his mixtape, ‘Spaceman’, which he released back in September, by releasing the official ABOVEGROUND-directed video for ‘Move Faster’.
The release of the video concludes a hugely successful year for the 22-year-old, South-East London, rapper – who’s real name is Oliver Godji, has not only been tipped by Drake to be the next big thing in rap, but has been nominated for the BBC Sound of 2019 longlist. The new video produces new visuals that are big on psychedelic trails and transitions, with a luxury sports car as the main focus.
Following the release of his critically acclaimed mixtape ‘Spaceman’, and his new video for ‘Move Faster’, Octavian announced a new headline tour, ‘The European Space Party tour’, which will include three UK dates including Manchester, Dublin, and sold-out shows in London and Birmingham.
Octavian, is scheduled to kick off his ‘European Space Party tour’ in Paris, on the 13th of February 2019, and will bring his 12-date tour to an end in Birmingham, on the 2nd of March 2019. This European tour follows Octavian’s most recent UK headline tour, which sold out in a matter of hours with multiple venues upgraded due to demand.
The 14-track, ‘Spaceman’ mixtape, includes none of Octavian’s previous tracks and sees the singer/rapper enlist guests, which include Suspect, A2, Swift, and Krimbo, while producers include J-Rick, Rudimental’s Amir Amor, Elevated, O12, and Lil Silva, alongside Octavian himself.
Coming from the same area of London as of Stormzy and Novelist some have decided to label Octavian’s music as grime, but speaking to HIGHSNOBIETY, Octavian said: “I don’t think my music is grime. For me, it’s a fusion of different things. Maybe because of the London accent it’s close to grime, but I personally don’t consider it that.”
In his breakthrough track, ‘Party Here’, which took the UK underground by storm last year, a number of different musical influences can be heard including garage, dancehall, trap, and grime. Speaking about the track, Octavian said: “It’s a very special song. We knew it was a golden ticket tune. We knew we needed to get out of our current situation — [the situation] was bad shit. The lyrics [are about] what people say to you in life, but you shouldn’t ever listen. Even your parents. Even my mum. I didn’t listen to everything she said.”
