Following the news that NWA are set to be inaugurated at the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in late 2015 (see here), band member Ice Cube has announced that the hip-hop group are set to reunite and perform at Coachella in April.
Ice Cube was originally announced to perform solo at the Californian festival, but it can now be revealed that there are plans for the whole group of NWA to perform. Find more information on the rest of Coachella here.
When speaking to the US show ‘The Talk’ Ice Cube said that:
“I’ve got some tricks up my sleeves … I’m gonna try to bring the members of N.W.A. together. Give everybody a little history lesson on Ice Cube and N.W.A., West Side Connection, everything I’ve been doing over the years.”
Here’s the link to that video if it isn’t working for anyone!
He did also hint at potential use of holograms saying that the show is set to have some “great visuals”, most likely with the late Eazy E being on display in a similar manner to four years ago when a hologram of Tupac joined Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre at Coachella.
Whilst this is all very early days and is yet to be confirmed by the other members of NWA; it does offer up the chance for a whole new generation of music lovers to enjoy one of the most important hip-hop groups to have emerged. NWA’s second album ‘Straight Outta Compton’ has been regarded as one of the most critically acclaimed hip-hop albums; being deemed the pioneering record for the development of gangsta rap.
