Noel Gallagher has scored his twelfth number one this week, the former Oasis member landed the top spot with his recent greatest hits album, ‘Back The Way We Came Vol 1 (2011-2021)’.
The singer and guitarist took to his Instagram page to share the good news with the world.
The singer’s twelfth number one was released on 11th June 2021 and debuted at number one, clinching the top spot with over 28,000 chart sales. The chart-topping album found a great deal of success within its physical sales with 9,300 sales on physical formats, the release sold the most units on CD and Vinyl formats over the weekend beating out the rest of the top 5 candidates.
Included in the album’s Vinyl sales, was the limited-edition vinyl which was released especially for this year’s Record Store Day. The spike in physical sales has been accredited to Record Store Day which recently had its first event on 12th June 2021. The final day will take place on 17th July 2021 and fans can predict that physical sales of the album will again surge during the event. The singer also has a personal connection with Record Store Day, Noel Gallagher was recently announced as the ambassador of the event, a position in which the singer has taken to heart.
Gallagher has spoken with OfficalCharts.com concerning his win, thanking fans for another number one in a jovial tone.
“What? I’m Number 1? Again?! Thanks very much for this, I’m running out of Manc-lepiece space for these things, but it’s an absolute honour. Thank you very much.”
In the singer’s acceptance speech, the singer speaks on his win whilst celebrating his Manchester roots. He can be seen with a cardboard cut-out of Pep Guardiola, manager for Manchester City. Gallagher once interviewed the sport’s figure in 2016 after Guardiola had taken over as manager for the premier league football club Manchester City.
Gallagher’s recent number one album was released under the name of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and provides an audible musical history of the band, With a track list of 30 songs which span three discs, listeners can celebrate the band’s decade long career. The release features tracks from the band’s three number one albums, ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’, ‘Chasing Yesterday’ and ‘Who Built The Moon’. The album not only marks a dozen number one albums overall for the musician but makes the new release his fourth number one with his newest band Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds
