Rejoice Oasis fans! Liam and Noel have agreed to unite once more – well sort of. The brothers will be reunited for the big screen, as The Guardian reports both of them have agreed to take part in the new documentary about Oasis.
The film, directed by Mat Whitecross (who directed The Stone Roses film Spike Island) will “document the journey from the moment in 1991 when Noel Gallagher joined his brother Liam’s band” until their explosive split before a Paris show in 2009. Produced by Amy director Asif Kapadia (A biopic about the late singer Amy Whinehouse), the film will offer “a rare and candid insight” into the 90’s Britpop band, with Whitecross being granted ‘unprecedented’ access to archives of the band by their label Big Brother Recordings.
The Guardian reported that Noel and Liam have also “agreed to share their favourite memories and offer their insight in interviews”.
The two brothers have had a less than amicable relationship since their split, with both of them constantly having to squash reunion rumors. Noel recently told Esquire: “Ten years from now, if I wake up one morning and go, ‘You know what? I think I’m going to do it,’ I can guarantee you, just for spite, Liam would say, ‘Oh, no, I’m not keen.’ Because that’s the way shit works. I can only tell you I’ve already got the next five years planned out. So it’s not going to happen in the next five years.”
Since the split the brothers have continued making music. Liam continued under the name Beady Eye, until they broke up in 2014, while Noel formed Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, who released a new album this year called ‘Chasing Yesterday’.
Until a reunion does happen though we will have the Oasis documentary, which is slated for a 2016 release.
