Rave legends The Prodigy have announced a forthcoming new album, No Tourists, set for release on 2nd November via BMG Records. You can stream and pre-order the new album here.
In support of the upcoming record, the group last week released a new single, ‘Need Some1′. Check out the song below:
With a manic and fast-moving video by Paco Raterta, the single is a classic Prodigy rave-up. Harking back to their heady peak in the 1990s, the song is driven by acid-house-style squelches, compressed drums and rousing soul interjections.
‘Written, produced and mixed over the last year by Liam Howlett in his studio in London’s King’s Cross’, the new release is centred around the band’s ‘do-or-die commitment’ to ‘the buzz’ of the rave experience. “This album is equally aggressive as the last records – but in a different way”, Howlett said, with the new songs “built to play live”.
“That’s the one thing that brings everything together. I couldn’t write this music unless it has that outlet on stage. That helps write the music. This is what I do it for: the live thing. And until we feel like we can’t do it, or the buzz goes, we won’t stop.”
Explaining the title, Howlett said, “To us, ‘No Tourists’ is ultimately about escapism and the want and need to be derailed. Don’t be a tourist – there is always more danger and excitement to be found if you stray from the set path.”
Backed by their classic albums Music For The Jilted Generation and The Fat Of The Land, the three-piece defined the big beat and UK rave scene in the 1990s and shifted the ecstasy underground to the mainstream. They are best known for their single, ‘Firestarter‘, for which Gene Simmons of Kiss even offered a bizarre cover in 2004.
The band are scheduled to appear at the Victorious Festival on Southsea Seafront in Portsmouth from 24th to the 26th August. Get your tickets here.
