Robin Thicke’s latest album ‘Paula‘ has only managed to sell slightly over 500 copies in the first week since its release.
The ‘Blurred Lines‘ singer has failed to have as much success with his second album over here on British shores and it seems as though sales over in the USA are also down by a considerable amount. After his separation from former wife Paula Patton, whom the album title is named after – a cringeworthy decision if there ever was one – Thicke has compiled a desperate attempt to get her back in musical form. 530 albums is an appalling effort, matched by a number of unsigned bands across the country, and sees Thicke enter the official UK album charts at the glorious #200 slot – no comparison to his number 1 previous effort.
His new album also was struggling in the US as it sold only 24,000 units in its debut week, a far cry from the 177,000 units of Blurred Lines that sold when it debuted last July. In his native Canada only 550 copies were sold in opening week, suggesting that the Americans are the only ones not to already be sick of his music. Thicke has been hoping to win back his estranged wife with the album and during promotional efforts on morning TV programs and awards show has pleaded for a reconciliation, though she seems to have caught his scent and decided to steer well clear.
Thicke will perhaps now learn how hard the music industry, and indeed life, can be without Pharrell Williams being by your side.
