Headlining the festival will be the iconic and incredible Chaka Khan, who this week announced her first album in 12 years, titled Hello Happiness and she has promised fans will be able to hear this live in London. This seven track album will feature last summer’s hit “Like Sugar” and the title track “Hello Happiness”. This will be Chaka’s 12th solo studio album over her groundbreaking career over the past 40 years, since the release of her debut single “I’m Every Woman” in 1979. Over her career she has won 10 Grammy awards and sold an estimated 70 million records worldwide, and is sure to be an absolute hit in Brixton.
Playing at Brockwell Park before Chaka Khan will be American singers Martha Reeves & The Vandellas. The group found fame in the 1960s Motown scene and were in inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. Alongside them are OSHUN , who describe themselves as “an independent Hip-Hop / Soul duo and the sonic manifestation of Afrofuturism. Using digital and acoustic sounds, heavy drums and bass, and ambient harmonic textures, OSHUN connects with the spirit of their ancestors to manifest a sweeter tomorrow for us all.”
Jazz Pioneers Masego and Children Of Zues will each be bringing their own unique styles of jazz music to the festival entwining the genre with elements of rap and hip-hop. The Comet Is Coming will be providing a educational performance with their personal electronic and psychedelic style, whilst Ninja Tune’s Jordan Rakei will provide soulful hip-hop driven music.
