Alternative pop group Nasty Cherry has finally shared a new track, “Shoulda Known Better“. It is the latest material from the band since the debut EP, ‘Season 1‘, released back in November 2019.
Singing “Eyes frog, crocodile tears, take a shot ‘cause I know that you’ll miss me. You’re a true deceiver,” the band encapsulates the frustrating feeling of regret at falling in love with a wrong person in the new single. “I should’ve known better, I should’ve known better, yeah,” vocalist Gabbriette Bechtel repeats.
“Shoulda Known Better” is a lo-fi track driven by a garage-y bassline with such an enthusiastic synth beat. The song is the band’s embarking into a new, darker sonic territory, a slight departure from their first EP’s glam-rock sound. It is hard not to think of works by HAIM and The Big Moon, but the track still remains a great bop to jam to.
Produced by Chris Petrosino & Rob McCurdy (who worked with Liam Payne, Ed Sheeran, Hailee Steinfeld, and blackbear), the single was recorded entirely in Los Angeles. The band shared, “We recorded it in LA right before going on tour, and a majority of it was written whilst laying on the floor.”
Last year, Nasty Cherry was welcomed into the music scene by the grace of our PC music queen Charli XCX. She handpicked the four girls—Gabbriette Bechtel (lead singer), Chloe Chaidez (guitarist), Georgia Somary (bassist), and Debbie Knox-Hewson (drummer)—and signed them to her Vroom Vroom Recordings.
The group received so much hype from their Netflix’s documentary ‘I’m with the Band: Nasty Cherry‘ which features how Charli XCX brought them together. Also, they released their very first body of work, a six-track EP dubbed ‘Season 1‘.
Even though the quartet has not given out any details whether “Shoulda Known Better” is the first cut from a new EP or—better—a debut album, the track is their first this year after the release of last year’s EP.
“Shoulda Known Better” is available for streaming and purchase now. Keep up with the band on Instagram and Twitter.
