The Official Charts Company have announced that The Killers’ ‘Mr Brightside’ has remained in the Official UK Singles Top 100 Chart for 260 non-consecutive weeks or a full five years. The record-breaking 2004 single has been top of the competition ever since its re-release, with Snow Patrol’s 2006 single Chasing Cars coming at second place at 166 weeks.
Other long-running singles in the UK Official Singles Chart Top 100 include ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran at 165 weeks, ‘Someone You Loved’ by Lewis Capaldi at 113 weeks and ‘I Gotta Feeling’ by Black Eyed Peas at 109 weeks. However, none have come close to beating ‘Mr Brightside’.

It is no surprise that ‘Mr Brightside’ was streamed over 281 million times in the UK, being the go-to track at parties, clubs, festivals to karaoke. It is the most-streamed song that was released before 2010 and it has been played 65.2 million times in the last 12 months, equating to about 1.2 million times a week – despite the country being in lockdown for most of the past year.
‘Imploding The Mirage’ was The Killers’ last album release in 2020 and they have recently rescheduled their UK and Ireland tour promoting their album, which was initially set to kick off in summer 2020, but has been moved to summer 2022. They will be joined by supporting acts Blossoms, Manic Street Preachers, Sam Fender and Supergrass. The band took it to social media to announce new dates and to apologise to fans: “UK and Ireland friends… We’re sorry, but there’s no way around this. These will be the same great shows, but we have to move them to next year. All tickets will be honored, so we really hope you can still join us!”
