Last night Mötorhead took to Facebook to announce the sad passing of iconic leadman Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister. The Facebook page can be found here.
“There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made its way down the street, with his family.”
We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words.”
Mötorhead are of course one of the most genre defining bands out there and were instrumental in the initial mainstream rock and roll movement. It is still unsure whether or not Mötorhead will continue, as it is very very difficult to imagine the band existing without Lemmy leading them.
There’s not much more to say on the matter other than that Rock and Roll has lost one of the very few true legends of the genre and music altogether; they just don’t make them like Lemmy anymore. Please listen to perhaps Mötorhead’s most famous song below and in the words of Lemmy’s band members and friends:
“We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.
Have a drink or few.Share stories.
Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.
HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT.”
