British Singer and Songwriter, Morrissey, has announced a pair of outdoor UK shows that he is set to headline in the summer of this year. The former The Smiths frontman is heading to London on Sunday July 9, to perform at Crystal Palace Park. The soloist will then travel to Leeds, where he will perform at Millennium Square on July 12. The support act for the London show has not yet been announced, whereas the support act for the Leeds show was announced as The Slow Readers Club.
Morrissey will kick off his 2023 European tour this week, starting off in Paris. The tour has four dates scheduled to take place in France, three dates in Belgium and one UK date – which will all take place throughout this month. The last show will be in Hammersmith, London at the Eventim Apollo, on March 19.
Morrissey has released 13 solo studio albums throughout his long career within the music industry. His most recent album release was in 2020 with, I Am Not A Dog On A Chain. The musician confirmed last month that his 14th album is on the way and is titled, Without Music The World Dies. There has been no announcement of an official release date for the album. Morrissey posted a statement regarding the new album, explaining that Without Music The World Dies was recorded in La Fabrique Studios in St Remy, France and was produced by Joe Chiccarelli, making this album the fifth to be produced by him. Within the statement on his website, Morrissey credits the instrumentalists and co-writers he worked with for the album,
‘’1 and 2 co-written with Jesse Tobias. 3, 7, 9, 10 co-written with Alain Whyte. 4, 5, 8 co-written with Gustavo Manzur. 6 written by Mark Adams. Engineered by Bill Mimms. Recorded at La Fabrique Studios in St-Remy, France. Jesse Tobias guitars. Alain Whyte guitars and backing vocals. Gustavo Manzur keyboards and backing vocals. Juan Galeano bass. Brendan Buckley drums’’
At the end of his statement on his website, it also states ‘’Capitol Records Los Angeles recently terminated their contract with Morrissey, therefore if any record label or private investor has interest in releasing this project, please contact Donnie Knutson.’ In the May of 2021, Morrissey announced his LP, Bonfire of Teenagers. He announced at the end of last year that the LP would be released in 2023 with Capitol Records. However, in December 2022 the musician announced he had ‘‘voluntarily withdrawn from any association with Capitol Records.”
It was also reported that Miley Cyrus recorded backing vocals for a track on the LP called ‘’I am Veronica,’’ but the American singer had asked to have her vocals withdrawn from the track. Capitol Records have ownership of the unreleased LP but it is highly unlikely the label would ever release it.
Tickets for the London and Leeds summer Morrissey shows go on sale Friday 10 March at 10am. Fans will be able to access tickets on Friday here.
