The upcoming brits show will feature some historic changes with the award shows announcing they will be scrapping the male and female categories, with it becoming a single category for the best British artist. This means that Dua Lipa and J Hus will go down in history as the last acts to win the male and female categories at the prestigious awards show.
The change in ruling comes after the awards show had been called out by artists Will Young and Sam Smith, saying the system excluded non-binary artists. Sam Smith who is non-binary missed out on a nomination at this year’s awards despite releasing an album the reached second in the charts, but they felt unable to enter the gender-based categories.
