Michael Buble has confirmed that he will be hosting the 2017 Brit awards, replacing the much loved duo Ant and Dec, who have hosted the ceremony for the past two years.
The news comes among a huge change by Brits bosses, and this news is set to see a worldwide audience tuning in.
The Canadian singer told the BBC “I belong to the UK. They made me, so to be honoured by being asked to do something like the Brits, it’s a privilege, it really is.” Buble himself has been nominated for a Brit three times, but is yet to pick up an award, although in the past he has won many Grammy and Juno awards.
The awards, known as the biggest night of the UK music scene, usually take place in February and have been running for an impressive 40 years. British stars usually host the event, although in the past Kylie Minogue and Ru Paul have been among the presenters.
Brits boss and Sony Music chairman Jason Iley said to the BBC: “This is a huge coup for the Brit Awards and we are delighted to announce Michael as our host for 2017. He is an extremely talented and charismatic world-class entertainer, much loved by the British public. Michael will add an exciting element to our show in 2017.”
For the first time, the 2017 nominations for the awards will be revealed on January 14 live on a prime-time ITV Saturday evening slot, with special performances from big names throughout. One of the awards – Brits Icon – has been announced already, with Robbie Williams taking the title.
