McFly just dropped the music video for their new song Happiness, making it their first official music video since 2013. Happiness is the first single from their upcoming album Young Dumb Thrills. The half-animated video is the perfect mix of McFly’s new sound and new inventive ways artists are filming videos during the pandemic.
Band members Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Harry Judd and Dougie Poynter all promoted the video on their social media accounts, including a very cute video from Tom of his children watching it together.
The band all appeared on Lorraine, via Zoom call to premiere the video. When asked by Christine Lampard about the new song, Danny said; “It just felt right as the first single and where we’re at mentally as a band, you know, we were all united on this song.”
The band were also asked about the possibility of a tour when the pandemic is over, to which Dougie, as always, hilariously said; “As soon as we can tour, I think we’re going to tour our cute little butts off and it’s gonna be themed around the album Young Dumb Thrills and I want to have lots of inflatables and baby oil.”
This news follows an announcement in July that the band had reunited after signing their first record deal since 2009 with BMG. The band had been on a hiatus since they scrapped their last album to join Busted on tour in 2015. Tensions began to form and the band thought they would never reunite.
Thankfully it was their manager Matt Fletcher who got them back together by booking a gig in the O2 out of the blue in 2019. The show sold out in minutes. The band played their classic hits and it inspired them to release their demos for the album they had originally planned to release before joining McBusted. They were called The Lost Songs.
Happiness is available now on all platforms and the video is out now. We do not have a date for Young Dumb Thrills yet but you can pre-order it now.
