The New York dreamy pop duo have released a video for California ahead of long awaited fourth album Seasons Of Your Day getting released tomorrow.
It’s been a long seventeen years for Mazzy Star fans. That is how long it has been since they released their last record Among My Swan, but judging by the response of fans who have already heard some of the material, it has been a worthwhile wait. Recorded in California and Norway, the album features collaborations with all previous members of Mazzy Star, as well as appearances from My Bloody Valentine’s Colm O’Ciosoig and a very special appearance from Bert Jansch, the late guitar great, who features in a duet with Mazzy Star guitarist David Roback on Spoon.
California opens with a dark intricate guitar melody before the haunting yet beautiful vocals of Hope Sandoval join in, and what follows is five and a half minutes of pure music euphoria, combining soft psychedelic rock with alternative pop, creating that distinct Mazzy Star sound they made their own twenty years ago.
Seasons Of Your Day is released tomorrow (September 24th). European tour dates are expected to be announced in the coming days, so hold tight for news on that. You can check out the video for California below.
