Obsolete pop diva Mariah Carey fell victim to a lip-syncing disaster during her New Year’s performance in Times Square last night.
Performing live on ABC, Carey appeared to be thrown when the wrong song was played, compounded by the singer mouthing the wrong lyrics too. Following the miscommunication, Carey began pacing around the stage, trying to engage her audience, encouraging them to sing along with her song “Emotions”. Her frustrations seemed to grow, telling the crowd “I’m trying to be a good sport here,” Carey also admitted that she was unable to hear which song she was supposed to be performing her earpiece.
In front of a crowd of over one million party-goers, Carey explained that “We didn’t have a check for this song… we’re missing some of the vocals, but it is what it is.” She added, “I’m just going to let the audience sing.” You can see the clip below.
Following the calamitous broadcast, the singer took to Twitter to make light of the situation, tweeting “Shit happens […] Here’s to making more headlines in 2017.”
