There are loads of people out there, who are huge football fans, and there are people that are huge music fans. Sometimes, a person likes both. If you are one of those people, here are news that will make your passions overlap – that is, if your favourite football club is Manchester City. The club’s new third kit is inspired by Manchester’s music culture. The jersey will be used during the 2020-2021 season and was already worn by some musicians.
Stockport-based Blossoms have two City fans in their band: Vocalist and guitarist Tom Odgen and drummer Joe Donovan. Both members participated in a photoshoot in which they showed off the new third kit. The new jersey displays an intricate paisley pattern which is supposed to reflect the many musicians that have worn said pattern throughout their careers – like Liam Gallagher. However, he was not happy about the new kit. Instead, he published a critical tweet when a photo of the third kit first got leaked, saying “ Whoever is responsible for that new Man City kit needs putting on the nxt flight to WUHAN and who ever buys it needs to be on the 1 after c’mon you should fucking know LG x”. The tweet has since been deleted.
But luckily for the team, some artists like Blossoms like the new design. “I’ve never seen a kit like this before, it’s different and I think it’s really smart. Manchester is obviously proud of its music scene and it’s good to showcase that and give this kit a story behind it”, Ogden said.

And Donovan added: “There’s always been an affinity between Manchester bands and Manchester football and after last year’s Hacienda inspired kit it’s great to see another nod to the Manchester music scene.”
But not only the music industry seems to like the new kit, over in the sports world, the Head of Product Line Management Teamsport Licensed at PUMA, David Bremond explained: “For the City Third Kit we looked at cultural influences from Manchester that have impacted the world. Manchester is a city recognised globally for its football and its music scene, so for this special jersey we have designed a one-off, exclusive paisley pattern on the jersey. For the design we have utilised the rose and the three rivers from the club’s crest to create this unique jersey at the junction of football, music and fashion.”
