Mahalia is an English singer songwriter who has gained massive attention from her two songs ‘Sober’ and ‘I Wish I Missed My Ex’ infused with the old school original R&B vibes. Mahalia recently released her new EP Seasons which has been featured on the American show ‘Insecure’. She has teamed up with Kojey Radical who is the only guest feature on her EP opening track. One song in particular called ‘Surprise Me’ caught people’s attention for its relatable lyrics and the uplifting beat. It has a nice mellow vibe overcoated by Mahalia’s angelic soulful voice and to go with this a few days ago she released a video for the lead song.
Mahalia collaborated with director Andre Muir and the video was shot in New York with her being seen in a number of different locations. The video shows Mahalia’s self-control when approaching this project by the visual aspects and how it was all pieced together. For each shot Mahalia notably contrasts her outfit with the background surrounding her and her lover who is portrayed. In the video you see Mahalia and her lover sharing good memories with each other while their relationship blossoms in each scene. When it comes to the ending shots you see Mahalia or her lover disappearing swiftly from beside each other. It goes from the relationship being so close to them both having a distance from each other which turns into them not being together at all.
Mahalia’s lyrics resemble what is foreshadowed in the video with its natural flair and organic feel. In the last shot you see Mahalia laying down while the camera slowly zooms out implicating the fading of the relationship and also her taking a step back from it.
This video has reached many of Mahalia’s fans and supporters which is not a surprise since she never disappoints. She is currently working on her new upcoming album but until then make sure to watch the video down below.
