Mahalia, is proving once again that she is one to watch as she unveils a sass filled music video, for her latest track ‘One Night Only’ featuring, fellow rising star, Kojey Radical. The stunning new visuals mark the lead single for the singers five track EP, ‘Seasons’, which was released on the 21st of September 2018.
The emotive song features fellow rising star Kojey Radical, and sees the pair offer up an alternative take of the stereotypical casual sex narrative. Directed by Kalvadour Peterson, the video places Mahalia firmly at the forefront as a figure of empowerment, surrounded by a group of real-life friends.
“This is my favourite video yet. I’m so happy I could work with Kojey on this one,” says Mahalia via a press statement. “’One Night Only’ is so special to me and I got to include some of my favourite girls,” says Mahalia, speaking about the video.
The video reflects the emotive reversal of the stereotypical casual-sex narrative, placing Mahalia as an all-encompassing figure of empowerment. Mahalia’s, recruited group of real-life, girl-friends hold their head high and glow with confidence, throughout the video – all while Radical attempts to defend the male’s perspective, as one of the girls ex’s.
Speaking about the single and the EP, Mahalia, said: “I wanted to make something that felt relevant to where I’m at in my life right now. I feel like no relationship is ever simple. It has its ups and downs. As a couple, you move through the seasons of your relationship together – each season having a different purpose.
“Starting with the first night. Into the honeymoon phase. Pushing through to a point when there’s a change that challenges you both. Maybe the other does something that surprises you. And then the final moments… When all you need is to know the other won’t give up. Validation. Clarity.”
The Leicester-born, soul singer/song-writer Started her music career in 2011, and released her debut EP, ‘Never Change’, in 2015. The stars debut EP was followed by her debut album, ‘Diary of Me’, in 2016. 2016 also saw the singer return with her single ‘Sober’, while in 2017 we had the single ‘Hold On’ and ‘No Pressure’, which was featured on many streaming playlists online.
