Madness have premiered the video for their new single Mr Apples – the first in three years.
The video, which was directed by Chris Foreman and Jim Canty (who has also directed videos for Twin Atlantic and Biffy Clyro), sees frontman and vocalist Suggs and the main character, Mr Apples having a conversation.
The video shows a man who seems to be struggling between sticking to his religion and also going out and gambling. Suggs explains to the Telegraph “Mr Apples never stops. By day, a pillar of society. Very clear on how people should behave. Strict, moralistic, judgemental, but, when that old sun goes down, he’s heading off up the wrong side of town. Exhausting. We worry for him. He’s a very naughty boy.”
The new album, Can’t Touch Us Now was Recorded at Toe Rag Studios in east London, and is the follow-up to their last album, which featured as one of 2012’s Top 10 Oui Oui Si Si Ja Ja Da Da, and was produced by Clive Langer and Liam Watson.
The album was recorded in less than three weeks. Its songs, which include Mr Apples, Mumbo Jumbo, Blackbird and the title track Can’t Touch Us Now, show the band’s popular use of pop, reggae and soul influences.
The band’s album will be released in October, and they will be going on tour in December. The tour dates are below.
