The masked musician is set to drop ‘U2OPIA’ soon. At the end of last year, he released a five-track EP titled ‘Road 2 U2OPIA’. Since then, he’s dropped a couple of singles – “Tuff Right?”, a spacey, synth-heavy trapwave banger, and “10:54”, a downtempo, floaty flute-trap track.
M Huncho, real name unconfirmed, hails from North-West London and has been making waves in the industry since 2017. His distinct mix of grime, drill, trap and R&B has seen him carve his own lane in the UK music scene.
His breakthrough came with his “Mad About Bars” freestyle with Kenny Allstar, which has today amassed 30 million views. He then released his first mixtape ‘Utopia’, which features hits like ‘Tranquility’ and ‘Ocho Cinco’. He’s had garnered a loyal fanbase and seen chart success, with albums ‘Huncholini The 1st’ and ‘Chasing Euporia’ securing spots in the UK Top 5.
Known for his mysterious image as well as his melodies, M Huncho has covered his face since he first arrived on the scene. You can even buy a M Huncho mask from different online outlets. Its striking style is reminiscent of MF Doom – Huncho has said before that he’s a fan of the late hip-hop legend.
He’s explained in interviews with Vice and Complex UK that the mask is more for “privacy” than anything else, saying that “I’m not in this for fame or for any type of celebrity status. I just make music and maintain with my close friends and family. That’s all that matters to me. All this other stuff is here today and gone tomorrow.”
For someone with a dedication to his privacy, he’s still managed to maintain a strong media presence. He’s appeared on The Big Narstie Show alongside Little Mix, and featured on episodes of prominent YouTube series like Chicken Shop Date and Gasworks.
As we wait for the M Huncho tour to commence, you can listen to a session he recently did for Balaami, with other up and coming artists on the trapwave scene such as Kilo Jugg, Figs0, Treez0, Jus Banco, ad Gd Up.
