‘Shoegazing’ band Lush have today announced that they will be reuniting to play at London’s Roundhouse arena on May 6th 2016. This will be their first public appearance as a band since their gig in Tokyo in 1996.
Tickets for the concert will be going on sale on the 30th September at 9am which will be available through the Roundhouse website here.
Fortunately for Lush fans who can’t make this initial concert, Lush have also announced that a world tour will soon be announced, allowing much more opportunities for fans to see them live.
Not only this but Lush’s record label 4AD will be releasing a vinyl edition of their ‘Best of’, as the band explains:
“To celebrate our return, 4AD will be putting out a vinyl edition of our ‘best of’ compilation Ciao! (limited copies will be coloured red) and a box set of (very nearly) everything we ever released along with a selection of rarities, sessions and demos.”
Lush initially formed in the late 1980s, originally being a punk band, as Anderson says on the 4AD profiling of the band:
“We were kind of punk rock in one way. We did think, ‘Well, if they can do it, why the fuck can’t we?’ Basically, our idea was to have extremely loud guitars with much weaker vocals.”
Their first release came in 1989 with the mini-album ‘Scar’. Released to widespread critical success.
Lush soon developed into a household name for journalists and music lovers alike.
Unfortunately Lush came to an end in 1996 with the sad suicide of their drummer Chris Acland. Following this event Lush broke up.
Lead singer Miki Berenyi had this to say on their reunion when speaking to BBC 6 Music:
“The opportunities and practicalities of reforming Lush meant that for 20 years it was an impossible undertaking, but we all loved what we did, and the time is finally right for us to do it again.”
This reunion however is not a great surprise, it was been somewhat a badly kept secret by the members of the band; with Emma Anderson and Philip King taking to social media at times to fuel rumours of a reunion.
The entire band took to Facebook today to announce their reasoning for coming back now:
“We’ve been away for ages and ages, but we’re really excited to announce that we’re finally ready to reform as Lush. For all the fans who have been pestering us to do this: thanks so much for your patience and support! We wish it could have been sooner but, for many years, it was just too painful to contemplate without Chris, and then all kinds of life-changing commitments made it impossible.”

This will be a great opportunity for old fans who want to relive their youth and new fans to experience Lush as they were! Tickets will no doubt go quickly so make sure you’re ready to purchase them on the 29th September at 9am!
