Lower Than Atlantis have revealed that following a three day UK tour, in May 2019, they will be going their separate ways. In a statement, posted to the bands social media, Lower Than Atlantis announced that they are going to split-up, after 11 years together.
The four-piece, comprising of Mike Duce – Vocals / Guitar, Ben Sansom – Guitar, Eddy Thrower – Drums, and Dec Hart – Bass, will play three dates in May next year. The quartets farewell tour will see them perform in Manchester, Birmingham, and London between the 9th and 11th of May 2019.
In the announcement, the band said: “After much deliberation, we’ve heavy-heartedly decided to take a break from the band,” reads a statement from the band. “It wasn’t an easy decision to make but we feel that it’s definitely the right one and one we hope everyone can learn to accept and respect.
“We’ve had an absolutely unimaginable 11 years making and playing music for people who have completely changed our lives for the better and we honestly can’t thank you enough for that. But we feel that we’d be doing all of you a disservice continuing this way. We want to take this opportunity to show our appreciation to every single one of you for the unfaltering support we’ve received over the duration of our musical lives so far. We feel so fucking privileged, honoured and lucky that we were able to achieve the things we have over the years. We managed to surpass all expectations and live beyond our wildest dreams …and it’s all thanks to the fans of this band. So for that – thank you.”
“We all have very exciting new projects in the works that we can’t wait to share with you. We’re also going to be playing the best shows we ever have which are planned for May and a song that was recorded, produced and mixed by Mike and Ben from the band to coincide with them. Let’s give LTA the send off she deserves! I wouldn’t even know where to begin explaining just how truly grateful we are so we’ll just have to show you on stage.”
The Watford-based rock band formed in 2007, and since then have had a number of hit songs. Lower Than Atlantis are best known for hit songs ‘Here We Go’, ‘English Kids in America’, ‘Had Enough’, ‘Another Sad Song’, ‘Beech Like A Tree’, and ‘Deadliest Catch’. Earlier this year, they appeared at Slam Dunk Festival at Birmingham NEC and played a series of intimate UK dates.
The band released their first EP, ‘Bretton’, in 2008, which they followed up with their debut album, ‘Far Q’, in 2010. Since then, the group have gone on to release a further four full-length studio albums, the latest, being ‘Safe in Sound’, which was released, on the 3rd of February 2017.
Speaking about the album, ‘Safe in Sound’, the band’s frontman Mike Duce said: “Everything we achieved with the self titled completely surpassed our expectations and now it’s time to make an album that can really take us to the next level.
“We’re headlining the biggest shows we’ve ever played so we’ve written what we think is a record big enough to be played in those venues. We’ve spent a lot more time refining our sound as well as trying some new techniques, Ben has engineered a lot of the record and Eddy has designed the aesthetic so this project is definitely very close to our hearts. We just wanted ‘Safe In Sound’ to be a true representation of where this band is nearly ten years on.”
