As former-teen sensation Lorde turned 20 today, she also gave her fans a sneak preview into the progress of her new album, and her excitement about the project. In an impassioned post on her Facebook page, Lorde describes the lyrics she has for the follow-up to her 2013 breakthrough Pure Heroine “the best I’ve ever written”, and expressed a desire to “spill my guts RIGHT NOW about the whole thing” to her expectant fans. Last year it was confirmed that songwriter Joel Little, who helped co-write every song on Lorde’s debut, would be working with her again on this as-yet untitled album.
Since the hugely successful Pure Heroine, Lorde has contributed songs to the soundtrack of The Hunger Games, in the form of a cover of Bright Eyes’ ‘Ladder Song’ as well as a collaboration with Stromae on the song ‘Meltdown’, which also featured Haim, Q-Tip, and Pusha T. As well as this, she also guested on the latest Disclosure album Caracal,, on the hugely popular track ‘Magnets’. Lorde also stunned audiences with her tribute to David Bowie at the 2016 BRIT awards, but she hasn’t played a full concert since 2014.
In July this year, Lorde tweeted about making a breakthrough in the writing of her new album, having spent several days in the wilderness, writing songs alone.

In the same summer, both Lorde and Little were given songwriting credits on the track ‘Heartlines’ fromNew Zealand pop group Broods, which featured on their second album Conscious.
There is no specific release date for the new album yet,but Lorde commented on her Instagram that production was underway, with a likely release date of spring 2017. As of yet there have been no plans for a tour concert dates revealed. However, given the timing of the album’s potential release, it wouldn’t be stupid to speculate that when the dates are announced, that there be some festival dates included amongst them.
