After the launch of the first Smoke Sessions project on Bandcamp in 2016, London rapper Lord Apex has paved his way through his own scene of UK hip-hop. His drugged out thought-provoking raps have gained him notoriety from stoners across the nation. With a new ‘4/20’ that sees everyone scrambling to Hyde Park, Apex finds solitude in the release of his new album ‘Smoke Sessions 3’, a third venture into the series that gave him the most traction as an artist.
The new album releases in tandem with the unofficial marijuana holiday in the United States on 20th April, a fitting release date for Apex. The lyrical content of this project mimics the other two instalments of this series, with a lot of weed content. The spacey production all over this record credits underground names Blaize Wareham, The Purist, Mulade, Angus Luke, droppedmilk, Slumfu, Xanmoto, LoVibe, DJ Reker and Toonorth. Also producing a handful of tracks on the album is Toronto’s own The Kount, a talented beatmaker who has since gained newfound fame for his viral production videos on social media sites such as Twitter and TikTok.
Smoke Sessions 3 is a fourteen-track affair with a 36-minute runtime. The album features the previous single featuring Harlem native and fellow pothead Smoke DZA ‘I Need A Light’. Other features include New York rapper Wiki, Irish singer/songwriter Maverick Sabre and members of the Elevation/Meditation collective Louis Culture and Finn Foxell. Smoke Sessions 3 is Lord Apex’ first project of 2021, following an active pandemic year that saw the release of two albums, ‘Darkskies’ and the V Don produced ‘Supply & Demand’. Both projects kept fans fed for the inevitable release of Smoke Sessions 3, which you can listen to on all major streaming services today.
