NME is reporting that Live at Leeds has given audiences their first taste of this year’s lineup, with the confirmation of over 30 acts today. The festival takes place in venues all over the aforementioned city, in a similar way to Slam Dunk Festival, on Saturday April 29 next year.
Amongst the names confirmed for the festival are Wild Beasts, White Lies, Jagwar Ma, The Pigeon Detectives, Teleman, Jaws, Lets Eat Grandma, Black Honey, The Big Moon and Superfood. The event is regarded as something of a launchpad for new musical acts, with the likes of The 1975, Bastille, James Blake, Years & Years, Rudimental, Stormzy, Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran having played there earlier in their respective careers.
Following an already successful year, Slaves are also confirmed to be playing, and the the festival runners have said in a statement that the duo are “one of the most influential and in-demand bands of recent times”, in explaining their decisions for asking the duo to perform.
Having released their second album Take Control at the end of September, and the band spoke to NME about working with and first meeting Beastie Boys icon Mike D, who produced the LP. Guitarist Laurie Vincent described their first encounter: “We’re sitting waiting in this restaurant, Mike is late and we’ve been there half an hour. He’s a busy man and when he arrives his phone is constantly going […] So in my typical blunt fashion I was just like, ‘Shall we all put our phones down, then?’ From that moment on he fucking loved it.”
Vincent then went on to disclose that he and Mike D talk on the telephone every day, and that the producer has become “almost like a third band member.” The three are even looking towards future collaborations, with Vincent saying “At the moment, we don’t want to record without him. It feels like he gets the best out of us.”
