Little Mix dropped their new song on Friday 27th March 2020 with their new record label RCA. ‘Break Up Song’ is an upbeat ’80s inspired track, debuting at Number 1 on the UK Official Trending Chart.
The come-back is important for the band since they left Simon Cowell’s Syco label back in 2018 – this song is set to be the first of a new era for Little Mix after their last single releases ‘Bounce Back’ and ‘One I’ve Been Missing’. The group teased their next album on social media with the caption “New Era. Loading.”

In an interview with Official Charts, Jesy Nelson spoke about ‘Break Up Song’, saying “It’s one of those songs that just makes you feel really good. Obviously, I didn’t live through the ‘80s but when I listen to it I feel like it takes me back somewhere.” The singer went on to discuss the album, revealing that it’s almost finished, although the rest of the recording and release has been pushed back due to the coronavirus outbreak. The album will include more songs like ‘Break Up Song’, with themes such as relationships, feminism, and more.
Jade Thirlwall was a guest on Kiss FM a few days before the single was released, and teased fans with a line from the chorus, before wondering if she was allowed to spoil it. If anything, this just sparked more excitement from fans, who are loving the song. With almost 3 million streams on Spotify, Little Mix has made an incredible come-back.
The song also received a lyric video, created entirely by a Little Mix fan. The video fits perfectly into the ’80s theme and has close to 2 million views, with Perri Edwards thanking the creator, Kayleigh, on Instagram.
On top of all this, Little Mix are currently in the process of filming their new talent show, The Search, but have postponed the live shows until the coronavirus is no longer a threat. However, two members, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock took to Instagram Live on Friday to answer fans’ questions and discuss the song.
Little Mix formed in 2011 when the four members all auditioned for The X Factor as soloists and were asked to return as a group. They went on to win and sign to Simon Cowell’s label Syco, releasing five albums. The band have won two Brit Awards and done a lot of work to combat cyber-bullying, support women’s and LGBTQ+ rights, along with supporting many charities and organisations.
