Leigh-Anne Pinnock from Little Mix and Comedian Munya Chawawa have been announced as co-hosts for the 2021 Mobo Awards. This year’s Mobo Awards will be held in person following the live streaming of the event, last year due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. Both Pinnock and Chawawa expressed their excitement to be co-hosting the 2021 Mobo Awards in an Instagram post.
Leigh-Anne Pinnock is a multi-platinum English singer and songwriter who now makes up one-third of the band Little Mix following the departure of singer Jesy Nelson, due to her mental health on December 14th 2020. The band’s new lineup consists of Pinnock, as well as singer’s Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall.
The group’s path to fame began when they won the X-Factor series in 2011. The band have released six studio albums to date and released their 10th Anniversary album Between Us on November 12th. The last single Nelson featured on was the group’s number 1 hit single“Sweet Melody” and her last album with the group was Confetti. Pinnock, Edwards and Thirlwall’s first single release as a trio was their single “Confetti” and their postponed Confetti Tour is due to kick off in April. Pinnock and Edward’s became first-time mother’s recently and whilst Edwards has released images and details of her baby son’s name, Pinnock released an image of her twin’s feet following their birth and has made a decision, to keep further details of her twins private at this time.
Pinnock’s documentary, Race, Pop and Power aired in May and she won an Ethnicity Award for her documentary this month. The singer is set to make her acting debut with actor Aml Ameen in the Warner Brothers Christmas film Boxing Day, which is set for release on December 3rd. Pinnock is also set to release an original song for the film.

Munyaradzi Chawawa is a British-Zimbabwean comedian and musician, who is known professionally as Munya Chawawa. Chawawa is known for his parody news sketches and credits John Oliver, Andy Zaltzman and Sacha Cohen Baron as his comedic influences. The comedian released his single “Piers Morgan” in November 2020 and his second single “Pain Au Chocolat” in August.
The Mobo Awards began in 1996 and will see both Pinnock and Chawawa, co-hosting this year’s Mobo Awards from Coventry on December 5th. The event will also be streamed live via YouTube on December 5th at 8 pm local time. The BBC will air an additional programme entitled 2021 Mobo Awards Access All Areas. 1Xtra’s DJ Target has been announced as the host and the event will be aired on BBC One on December 8th at 10.35 pm local time. Viewers will be able to enjoy exclusive backstage content, artists interviews and performances.
CBE, Founder and CEO of MOBO Group, Kanya King, said of this years Mobo Awards in light of the Covid 19 Pandemic, “The past 20 months have been extremely challenging for artists everywhere but as always we are seeing creatives rise up and adapt, even in a global pandemic”
As well as co-hosting the 2021 Mobo Awards, Chawawa has been nominated for, the Best Media Personality Award for the second time. The comedian will be joining British rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor, Dave who is leading with the most award nominations for Best Album, Best Song and Video of the year, as well as Best Male Act and Best Hip-Hop Act.
Other nominations also include rapper, Central Cee who has been nominated for four awards alongside rap stars Ghetts and Little Simz, soul star Cleo Sol, and Mercury Prize-winner Arlo Parks, who have been nominated for three awards each, There are plenty of other artists who will also be battling it out for a Mobo Award on the night.
Pinnock said of her upcoming co-hosting role “Make sure you tune in, December 5th, 8pm, live! Don’t miss it guys, it’s gonna be amazing” Chawawa also said “I’ve been told we’ve got big performances, magical moments [and] it’s just gonna be a whole lot of fun” Chawawa expressed further excitement of his upcoming co-hosting opportunity with Pinnock in his tweet below. Pinnock and Chawawa look set for a musical treat when co-hosting this year’s Mobo Awards.
