Pop group Little Mix have announced that their 2021 UK and Ireland tour will be postponed until next year due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. The Confetti Tour had been scheduled to take place in April and May this year. This is due to be the band’s first tour as a three-piece, after member Jesy Nelson quit in December to focus on her mental health and wellbeing.
In a statement posted on their Instagram, the band wrote: “You know how much we love being on the road and performing every night for you all. However, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, we must prioritise the safety of our fans and crew and help to stop the spread. Therefore we’re so sad to say that the Confetti tour will be postponed to April 2022. All tickets will be valid for the corresponding rescheduled dates and we’re taking this chance to add an additional show for our fans in Cardiff.”
Fans have taken to social media to voice their support for the band’s decision.
@amealingx posted: “so important to keep everyone safe! Roll on 2022! A Little Mix tour is ALWAYS the best night, bring on the dancing, the singing along to every song and a much needed girls night!”
@itsolyvea wrote: “May next year it is then. Perfect way for me to celebrate my graduation! Stay safe girls.”
@matt_johnson_89 added: “Gutted it’s not going ahead this year but I’ve been expecting this announcement for months. I’m looking forward to eventually seeing you girls again next year.”
Little Mix shot to fame in 2011 as the first group to win The X Factor. Formed of Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Ann Pinnock, the band have had UK number-one hits with songs such as Wings and Shout Out to My Ex. Little Mix ‘s last tour, LM5: The Tour, took place in late 2019. Their Summer 2020 Tour was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.
The group’s latest album, Confetti, was released in November 2020 and peaked at number two in the UK album charts. Confetti was received favourably by critics, with Clash magazine writing: “Touches of R&B, the nostalgic beats and the impeccable harmonies that the four produce offer comfort with their familiarity and still manage to feel progressive with the 2020 take on these classic elements of an iconic music era.”
