British girl group, Little Mix have announced the release of their upcoming new single, ‘Confetti’, which sees the group collaborate with Saweetie. The group took to their Instagram to announce the news and captioned the post with the release date of 30th April 2021.
The single, which is a re-worked version of the title track from their 2020 album ‘Confetti’, will be the band’s first single release since the departure of Jesy Nelson, who left the group in December last year. The group have not spoken as to whether Nelson’s vocals will be included in the new release. The ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ singers also took to Instagram to share a video in which the trio share the exciting news of their new release. In the post, the group also announced their musical partnership with Saweetie, the multi-talented US rapper responsible for the 2019 hit, ‘My Type’ and owner of Icy Records.
The album in which first featured the single was released on 6th November 2020 and produced three singles. On 18th December 2020 ‘Confetti’ was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry. The album was co-written by the band’s remaining members, Jade Thirwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock.
The release marked the last project in which the trio worked with former member, Jesy Nelson. Nelson who left the group last year missed most of the promotion for the album including hosting responsibilities for the 2020 MTV EMAs. Shortly after the album’s release, Nelson took to social media to explain her departure citing her mental wellbeing as her reasons for leaving the group.
The album’s most successful release was ‘Sweet Melody’ which scored the group a number one hit within the UK charts in January 2021, after eleven weeks of its initial release date. The single was later certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry and to date is the group’s fifth number one, and their first number-one single since 2016 smash hit, ‘Shout Out To My Ex’.
‘Sweet Melody‘ was also performed on the group’s reality TV show, ‘Little Mix The Search’, which saw the band judge a singing competition to form a new music group that would support Little Mix on their Confetti tour in 2022. The tour was originally set to take place in 2021 but was postponed due to Covid restrictions. On 8th February 2011, the group released a statement that the tour would now take place in 2022 and will begin on 9th April 2022 in Belfast.
