Following the recent drop of their new music last Friday, Little Mix and Taylor Swift have spoken out about how different it is to record music videos during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Little Mix are currently recording the video for their new song Holiday. It’s the first time the girls have been back working together in person since the lockdown began. However, they weren’t too close, they had to distance from each other and will be super-imposed to look like they’re together in the edit.
Speaking on the Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill, Perrie revealed: “I mean it was a very bizarre experience. It was like, everybody had to fill out forms, everybody had to wear masks and visors who were on set, there was only a certain number of people on set. We had to get our temperature taken. We had to stay far away from each other, and they are going to somehow super-impose it. So we were together, but we were distanced, so it’s so clever how they’ve done it, and we saw an edit yesterday and we gagged. It’s insane.”
Along with dropping a surprise eighth album Folklore, Taylor Swift also released a music video for single Cardigan, which she directed and wrote the treatment for. In an Instagram post where Taylor Swift thanked all of team members, in regards to the making of the video, she added; “The entire shoot was overseen by a medical inspector, everyone wore masks, stayed away from each other, and I even did my own hair, makeup, and styling.”
It will be interesting to see the different methods artists will use to continue to create music videos in this “new normal” world as lockdown restrictions will continue to lift. In the earlier days on the pandemic artists like Twenty One Pilots and Charli XCX released videos shot in their homes.
Little Mix’s song Holiday is out now and so is Taylor Swift’s new album Folklore.
